Writer's picture: BelarustogoBelarustogo

The Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War is the largest deposi-tory of historical documents and relics of the period 1941 - 1945. The exposition demonstrates Belarus’ history during World War Two and the Great Patriotic War, the contribution of the Belarusian nation to the Great Victory and to the fight against Nazism in Belarusian lands and far abroad. The new building of the Great Patriotic War museum looks like a semi-ring lo-cated near the hill of the obelisk named “Minsk – Hero City”.

The museum and the obelisk are situated in a picturesque 10 hectares green park. It carries the symbolical name “The Victory Park”. The central facade of the building is de-signed to look like a celebratory firework on the day of the great victory. The rays of the fireworks highlight ten major events of the war starting with the defence of the Brest Fortress and ending with the raising the Victory banner on the top of the Reichstag. Pay attention from the outside that the walls are leaned symbolising that the enemy wanted to bend the country and the nation but the heroes always stood straight and didn't allow to break their will.
